With fall already dropping on us and winter quickly approaching, let’s make something to warm heart and limb! Simple yet full of power, this hot chocolate recipe has been keeping me warm my whole life. Let’s be real, who doesn’t love a mug of hot chocolate after playing in the snow?! This cup always brings back memories of snow forts and building snowmen.

Lets get to the magic!!

Though the ingredients are simple and the process is easy, don’t let that fool you. The flavor is powerful! The first step makes sure of that!!

First, in as saucepan, we’ll mix together the cocoa powder, sugar and water. Now we can hit the heat! Turn the burner to medium and wait for little bubbles to sprout up. We simmer this on medium heat for 3 minutes. This combines all the flavors together and makes a chocolate sauce consistency.

Simmering complete, the smell of chocolate will be powerful! This chocolate sauce is very condensed, a bit sweet but I would not recommend tasting at this point. (I made that mistake as a kid. Very strong flavor!) Here is where we add our milk! All 4 cups go into our chocolate sauce. Stir it up and bring back the heat to about medium high. Keep stirring to ensure that the milk doesn’t scorch. We are looking for the proper temperature for drinking. Heat until almost boiling for a hotter cup but beware, hot is in the name after all!!

Milk added and heated to perfection, now we add the details!! A bit of vanilla for extra flavor and you can’t forget the marshmallows!!! Add the vanilla into the whole pot! Serve into mugs immediately! Add in the marshmallows to your desires!

Hot and cozy, this drink always brings me back to childhood!! I love having a cup while watching the birds on my porch.

I hope you all enjoy the magic in a cup as I have for many years!! Shout out to Mama for teaching me how! Let’s carry on the magic for many more years together!!
